Dr. Weaver, a native of Colorado, is a board-certified general surgeon and is fellowship trained in bariatric surgery. Dr. Weaver completed medical school and his general surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to complete a minimally invasive and bariatric surgical fellowship at Emory University. Dr. Weaver performed over 400 minimally invasive procedures including the gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, Lap-Band® Surgery and revisional bariatric procedures. Dr. Weaver returned to Colorado in 2010, joined Western Surgical Care, and started the Western Surgical Bariatric Center. The multi-disciplinary team at Western Surgical Bariatric Center focuses on personalized care and individualized treatment plans for the bariatric patient.
Dr. Weaver practices as a general and advanced laparoscopic surgeon and has performed over 1000 minimally invasive surgeries including the Lap-Band® procedure, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, complex gastric resections, revisional surgeries, anti-reflux procedures and endoscopic procedures. His interests encompass the surgical approach to obesity (bariatric surgery), gastro-esophageal reflux disease, esophageal dysmotility disorders, gastrointestinal surgery and laparoscopic hernia surgery. Dr. Weaver is now the only surgeon at Rose Medical Center performing the Linx® procedure for the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
Dr. Weaver is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Colorado Medical Society, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Weaver is married and enjoys leading a very active outdoor lifestyle. He and his wife spend a lot of time biking, camping, hiking and skiing.
Dr. Wikiel was born in Poland but grew up in Rhode Island and New York State. He attended Warsaw Medical University after which he returned to the United States to pursue a transplant surgical research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He then completed his surgical residency training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. This was followed by a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he remained for an additional year as an attending physician. Dr. Wikiel is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
In 2013, Dr. Wikiel moved to Colorado to join the physicians at Western Surgical Care, P.C. His practice encompasses both general and minimally invasive surgery. He has advanced training in hernia repair including both laparoscopic and open techniques. He is the founder of the Western Surgical Care Hernia Center. Dr. Wikiel is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Susan Silver, Ph.D. provides psychological support for our Denver weight loss surgery program. Dr. Silver is a licensed professional counselor with over 7 years of experience serving the Denver-Metro mental health community. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado. Her Master’s and Doctoral degrees are in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver. Dr. Silver is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver and Regis University. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and American Counseling Association. Additionally, Dr. Silver has presented original research at conferences around the country.

Paula Peirce RD, PhD , is the Nutritionist for our Denver weight loss surgery program. She graduated in dietetics from Purdue University in Indiana and attended the University of Chicago Pritzger School of Medicine to receive her Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition. After working in nutrition at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics and the University of Colorado Health Science Center, Paula attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and completed a Doctoral Degree in Human Nutrition in 1987. Paula was nominated as "Nutritionist Of The Year for 2007" she joined our team with over 25 years of experience in human nutrition and weight management counseling.
Natalie Cardenas is the bariatric coordinator and medical assistant for Western Surgical Bariatric Center. She is a native of Colorado and has worked in the medical field for over 30 years. She works closely with patients, referring physicians and bariatric staff to coordinate a seamless bariatric journey. In her spare time, she loves traveling and spending time with her grandson and family.
